KAMBAKU
Kambaku was one of the original Magnificent Seven.
(c. 1930 - 1985)
Kambaku, the Tsonga word for 'old elephant bull' and "great tusker".
He was commonly seen but never with an askari.
He was more than 55 years old in 1985 when he
was found with a wound in his knee. When he could no longer walk and it
was clear that death was imminent, Regional Ranger Lynn van Rooyen from the Lower Sabie Ranger Section ended his suffering.
His tusks were the heaviest of The Magnificent
Seven and were almost perfectly matched and are
now on display at the Elephant Hall Museum at
Letaba Restcamp.
