Mashagadzi was named after the Mashagadzi windmill south of Shingwedzi restcamp. 
 
Mashagadzi is historically the name of an individual (probably a Headman) who lived in the area in the past.
 
He was found dead in May 2007 close to Shingwedzi He died as a result of a fight with another bull
